On March 31, 1732, Franconia Township was incorporated from what was a portion of Salford Township. Settled primarily by Dutch- and German-speaking immigrants, the township still retains much of its rural character and charm. Today, while some farms remain, new houses, small businesses, and other developments are noticeable. Township planners hope to concentrate new developments around the townships boundary with Souderton and Telford Boroughs. Today, many signs of the old Pennsylvania German cultural practices can still be seen. It should be noted that some homes and businesses may have a Souderton or Telford mailing address, but are actually located in Franconia Township.
